Acne Home Treatment
For mild cases of skin problems there are several acne home treatments that are easy to use and make, and cost almost nothing. These home treatments are effective on the typical small blackheads and whiteheads that most teens and adults experience, but they are not usually effective on more severe outbreaks.

Some quick and easy acne home treatments include:
- Honey – place a small dab of honey on the pimple and cover with a band aid just before going to sleep. The compounds in the honey act as a natural antibiotic and the redness and swelling will be decreased in the morning. The band aid just keeps the honey from rubbing off on pillows or linens.
- Water – drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of pure, clean water every day. This helps the body fight infection as well as keep the skin hydrated to avoid acne caused from excessive dead skin clogging the pores.
- Increase the amount of Omega 3 in the diet. Omega 3 acts to remove free radicals from the body and help with the body’s ability to fight infection. Foods that are high in Omega 3 include most fish, walnuts, avocados, and flax seed.
- Avoid foods with hydrogenated oils. This includes all fried foods, peanut butter, commercially made snacks, cakes and even cookies. Hydrogenated oils don’t directly cause acne, rather they prevent the body from being able to absorb the Omega 3 oils, which are needed for fighting bacteria and infection.
- Oatmeal masks – oatmeal is great for removing oil and hydrating the skin. Make a thick paste of rolled oatmeal and hot water. Let it stand until cool enough to apply to the skin comfortably. Rub a generous layer of oatmeal on the skin and relax for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water followed by a cool rinse.
- Egg whites and lemon juice can be a good astringent facemask. Simply beat one egg white until stiff, add a couple of drops of fresh lemon juice. Witch hazel can also be added, but just one or two drops. Apply to clean skin with your fingers, let it work for 10 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Some people with dry or sensitive skin may experience a burning or tingling sensation and may need to discontinue use if skin becomes over-dry.
- Tomato slices can also be used to remove excess oil from the skin. Slice a fresh, red tomato into ¼ inch slices. Press between paper towel to remove moisture. Lay the tomato slices on the skin and relax for 10 to 20 minutes. Remove the slices and rinse with warm water.
Home acne treatments are simple and easy to do, however they are often not as intensive as some of the commercially available topic ointments or prescription medication. For mild or occasional acne outbreaks try home acne remedies first to save money.
