Acne Solution

There are several products on the market that are advertised as “the” acne solution. Several of these products, including Proactiv, Dermacia, Zenmed and Acne Complex, all use the same general principles of good skin hygiene, treatment of the bacteria on and in the skin, removal of excess oils and dead skin cells as well as correct moisturizing of the skin.

These products all focus on the complete treatment of the skin for the acne solution for clean and blemish-free skin. All products must be used in the recommended fashion to have optimum results. The acne solutions advertised commercially are sold as a treatment regime, rather than a single individual product. Most of the products have at least three basic components in the regime and they include:

  • Step One – cleaning with some form of gentle, usually soap-free, cleanser. The cleanser has antibiotic compounds that can be herbal or chemical to kill the bacteria on the surface of the skin and even within the pores.
  • Step Two – an exfoliant. This product removes the dead skin cells on the surface that cause blockages in the pores leading to blackheads and whiteheads. By gently removing as many dead cells as possible there is less chance of continued building-up of the shed cells within the pores.
  • Step Three – a light moisturizer that also has some antibacterial properties. Most moisturizers will be oil-free and will work to control the production of oil by the skin. Less oil production leaves skin cleaner and less likely to support bacteria growth deep in the pores.

Most of the acne solutions also recommend using an astringent toner to tighten pores and to further protect the skin. Additional products such as face masks, vitamins, diet recommendations and even herbal supplements may also be recommended along with the skin care regime.

These commercially available acne solutions work very well for many people. They are easy to follow and use and do promote good skin health, decrease the oils and dead skin cells, as well as reducing the production of oil by the glands in the skin. As with all regimes, it is important to follow the routines on a daily basis and to avoid skipping days or not using the products on a regular manner. For extreme cases of acne or skin conditions that look like acne but are more hormonally caused, there may be no topical treatment that will completely eliminate outbreaks, however they will be reduced. For severe acne a combination of oral prescription medications and a good skin care routine may be required.

Before using any of the acne solutions be sure to consult with your physician, especially if you are using a prescription topical ointment or treatment. Discontinue use of any acne product if skin becomes itchy, excessively flaky or red, or if a rash develops that is not typical. Acne solutions are available that will help with most conditions, but you may need to research and experiment before you find the one that works best for your skin.
